Curbside Recycling Pickup has Resumed in Fulton County!
Feb. 16 started with the third week of the month schedule.
Feb. 23rd will begin the regular fourth week schedule of City of Gloversville on Tuesday and Wednesday; the town and village of Mayfield on Thursday (Feb. 25); and Town of Johnstown on Friday (Feb. 26).
Do not put recycling into plastic bags (except shredded paper). You can use a combination of marked and unmarked containers (garbage cans, Rubbermaid Totes) with good fitting lids.
The regular 1st & 3rd week / 2nd & 4th week curbside pick-up schedule will resume in March.


During COVID-19 restrictions, the Fulton County Department of Solid Waste has announced that the Landfill and Transfer Station on Mud Road, and all county transfer stations, will be open for regular hours.


Fulton County Department of Solid Waste

Performs field work and technical office work on a variety of environmental projects. Responsibilities include weekly monitoring of landfill methane to electric system including “tuning” of landfill gas wells & installation of new collection piping and performs quarterly gas testing for EPA Title V requirements; conducts weekly landfill inspections; oversees leachate pumping system; stormwater compliance monitoring & reporting; compiles and files Demolition Team notices with NYSDOL; ensures staff safety training & scheduling is performed; submits annual NYSDEC reports; oversees bulk storage tank compliance & monitors fuel dispensing system; does miscellaneous duties as required.

Bachelor’s degree in the environmental field or Associate’s degree in the environmental field & 2 years of experience. A Civil Service exam will be required.

Salary - $21.22/hr start rate/$24.96 after 1 year 40-hour work week.
County residency required.

Substitute wanted to fill in for 7 transfer stations located throughout the county.
Hours vary, as needed - $14.65/hour
·        Inform residents of proper garbage disposal & recycling guidelines
·        Ensure all safety measures are adhered to by residents
·        Operate garbage compactor
·        Check for transfer station permit
·        Keep station clean
·        Tabulate usage and monitor a variety of drop off recycling programs.
Fulton County residency required.

The Fulton County Sanitary Landfill is located in the Town of Johnstown, and is situated on 675 acres of land, with 40.5 acres of active landfill. 

A total of 105 acres is available for actual landfill. 


All residents of Fulton County - either through the County's curbside recycling pick up, or transfer station drop off (with a permit). Each of the eight stations also accepts electronics, textiles, used motor oil, and vehicle batteries.

County residents can also drop off properly prepared recycling at the Department of Solid Waste Transfer Station on Mud Road without a permit (for recycling only).  Items that can only be disposed of at the DSW Transfer Station Include: tires (a disposal fee applies), Freon units ($5 each), electronics, thermostats, cell phones and fluorescent bulbs (along with textiles, used motor oil, and vehicle batteries.)
