General Transfer Station Information

There is a $5 charge per appliance, which includes: washer, dryer, stove, hot water tank, furnace or woodstove. (see below for Freon units). Coupons must be purchased in advance from the Town Clerk.

This stations accepts: electronics, textiles, used motor oil, rechargeable batteries and old vehicle batteries from any resident, NO PERMIT IS NEEDED.

Items below must come to the Solid Waste Department, 847 Mud Road, Johnstown ONLY:

  • Freon units (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers). No Charge
  • Fluorescent light bulbs or tubes. No Charge
  • Mercury-containing thermostats. No Charge
  • Latex Paint. (Saturday mornings in June, July and August only). Drop off or take paint. No Charge
  • Household Hazardous Waste. (2nd Saturday in August, every other year). No Charge
  • Tires (off the rim): $2.50 up to 16”; $5 for tires 16.5 to 24”; $10 for tires over 24”

$10 per sticker (4/1-3/31 annually)
$30 pickups and trailers (4/1-3/31 annually)
$20 temporary permit, 3 trips (does not expire)

Note: Curbside garbage pick up:
the south side on Monday and
north side on Tuesday (Monday only during winter).
Curbside Recycling pick up: is the 1st & 3rd Thursday
