The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of the World's Indigenous People is observed on August 9 each year to promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population. This event also recognizes the achievements and contributions that indigenous people make to improve world issues such as environmental protection.

International Clown Week is celebrated every August 1 to 7 to recognize the efforts clowns across the world put in just to make people laugh.

Campfire Day and Night was unofficially created in 2017 by Bob Matthews of Rochester N.Y. In researching special holidays for over a dozen years, Bob was simply amazed that no one had created a special day to celebrate and appreciate campfires. So we now celebrate campfires on the first Saturday in August.

National Clown Day is always the Saturday during International Clown Week, which is always the first seven days of August. On August 2, 1971 U.S. President Richard Nixon issued Proclamation 4071 , making August 1-7, 1971 National Clown Week. It is uncertain how and when National Clown Day, came into being.  

Celebrated every year on August 2, the unofficial holiday is also known as National Ice Cream Sandwich Day in the US.

National Girlfriend Day

August 1 is Girlfriend’s Day. It is unclear whether the unknown creators of this holiday wanted it to be a day for people to honor their female friends or for them to celebrate their female romantic partners.

The term girlfriend first came into use in 1863 as a way to describe a woman's female friend in youth. It was not until the 1920s when the word started being used as a way to describe a person's female romantic partner.
